Which railroad will be the first to issue an explanatory document like this explaining PTC?

How long will it take before a crew finds a work around with the ultimate railroad safety device - PTC ?

No need. It fails so often we often run with it cut-out.

That was a long read but very informational.  Hard to believe that occurred but have heard of other stories over the years like this.

That was a good "find" on your part.  Thanks for posting.

Here's a shot from Agnew that I took in the late 70's.  The CB&Q branch was disconnected by this time.
It would have been a good Quad Cities route!

Cool picture at Agnew.  Note the wig wags at the crossing.  The Q had at least one NW2 with C&NW ATC for the Agnew-Sterling trackage rights.

From that accident report, it didn't seem like the C&NW crews paid much attention to the operating rules, or speed limits.   BSB

Wow, even with "automatic" safety processes in place, simple human error multiplied several times can still get someone killed. Still.

ATC is still an excellent system. PTC, not so much.
