Memorial Day Weekend, 1980, Klamath Falls and The Popsicles

I ventured to Klamath Falls, Oregon on Memorial Day Weekend in 1980. Here are a few photos of what I saw.

On the way back to the Bay Area heading south on I-5 down by Lake Shasta in a place between tunnels Sultzer 
powered, former U25B, 7033 popped out of a tunnel nortbound, so I had to turn around and chase!

Entering Klamath Falls Yard

End of the fun as helper was added to take the train to Eugene.

It was 4 PM the 2nd time I left KF to head south - tired arrival back in Burlingame at 12:30 AM

Popsicles is a new one on me but I was always been a late bloomer or don't hang out with the right people.

Excellent series of photos of one of my favorite RR's!

Hence the name....
SP 7033 West (TE70-4S) ascending Cajon Pass near Swarthout Canyon Road above Blue Cut, CA in May 1978 (Don DeLay photo). If they had to add helpers for the semi-flat and downhill run to Eugene, half of them must have died. Calimus Hill is the only grade they would have faced and four working units should have been able to handle that. Great shots Jim!

I never knew the KLAMATH FALLS yard had a tower.  Very cool to see.

Here's a Greg Brown photo of the SP Yardmaster tower and switchman's shanty at Klamath Falls, OR in November 1987.
