Those are cinders (side of hill) left over from the days of PRR steam. There were piles of cinders everywhere along this part of the ex-PRR. And that cast iron Keystone shaped "W" whistle sign helps attest that the PRR was indeed, "The Standard Railroad of the World". Cresson, Pennsylvania. June, 1975.
