A few weeks before my Uncle Sam requested a few years of my life I paid a visit down Turlock way to chase the KM's. I remember taking this shot as X-9011 east was in the hole for train 51 the Oakland bound San Joaquin Daylight. The engineer and fireman on the San Joaquin Daylight are both waving as well as the engineer on the KM. The SP boxcar just finishes off the photo of a scene that will never be repeated. This is one of my favorite memories of the SP. Im glad to see that 9011's sister is out and about in 2019.

Definitely awesome!  The traded salutations of meeting train crews are timeless, but the rest of the subject matter is definitely of a specific era!  Even if we didn't know the Army came looking for photobob in 1965, he could only have been taken the shot in 1964-65, after the 9011 was delivered and before it was renumbered 9114.

I know it is cliche' but, thumbs up for a great capture of the friendly SP.

Neat photo. I like the look of the SJV Daylight, particularly with an FP7 leading.

Great photo! I believe that is F7P 6386, an F7 with boiler controls leading.

It looks like No 51 still has the RPO car too.

Looks like the east switch of Alcant (geographic south end). That searchlight was one the last SP ones in the San Joaquin to fall, lasting until 2013. The eucalyptus tress in the background fell in the late 90s or early 2000s when they converted Hwy 99 (just out of sight to the right) into a full fledged freeway. The project also included replacing the Merced Ave crossing visible in background of the picture with a new overpass right over the south switch for Merced Ave & Bradbury Rd.

Great pic, but for some of us that was the ghost of the San Joaquin Daylights... Including the service.

Always wondered where the name "Notarb" came from.  While the utter absence of Tarbs at that location is one possibility, I have a feeling there's more to it than that.  "Braton" spelled backwards?  This document says "probably."
