On 7/21/1986 I heard talk on the scanner of SPL-121 which meant that some sort of Special was heading eastbound on Conrail's Reading Line towards Allentown,PA. I set up at Emmaus Jct. to see what this Special consisted of. Turned out to be CR 2022 with CR #23 (ex-NYC Baggage Car) and Rail Analyzer Car #22. Turns out that Car #22 has quite a storied past. Built by Pullman in 1939 as the "American Milemaster",it was a Lightweight Sleeping-Buffet-Lounge-Boat Tail Observation with 2 bedrooms,1 compartment and 1 drawing room.It was put on display at the 1939 World's Fair. It ran on a number of Southern Pacific trains including the Lark as SP 9500. During a shopping in 1957 the boat tail lounge was squared off. It was sold to EMD in 1965 and rebuilt into their test car "ET 800." Conrail acquired the car in Feb. 1985 and rebuilt it once again into their "Rail Analyzer Car #22." Records show that it was deleted from the NS roster in Sept. 2005 and sold to Genesee Valley Transportation and lettered DLWR #100 for their Depew,Lancaster & Western operation. I believe it is currently up in Scranton,PA.

Greatly appreciated your Conrail 22 History info-always wondered where ET-800 ended up.

That car and its mate were built for the Lark.
