Santa Fe Mainline
Author: SantaFeRuss

In the 1960's and 1970' approximately how many trains did the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe run across the Transcon between Flagstaff, AZ and Belen, NM per 24 hour period? And also, what was the average length the trains were far as car count was concerned? Any super long freights?  What was the most common power? I know its a bunch of questions but it would be so helpful. Thanks for any answers.

Scans of a map of net ton-miles per mile
for 1962

They're upside down for some reason, but if you download a scan you can fix that.

10.4 million net tons between Gallup and Winslow, total both ways -- less than 30000 tons per day.

In 1974 they gave gross tonnage rather than net --
32.0 million Gallup to Winslow, 24.5 eastward.
793282 cars, total of both directions.

In 1978, 34.8 million gross tons AZ-NM state line
to Winslow, 28.08 million eastward. 428117 cars
westward, 422046 eastward.
