Columbus and Greenville 603 and 605 are in Greenwood, Mississippi on April 11, 1974. Both 603 and 605 are fallen flag builder Baldwin DRS64-1500 roadswitchers.

Oh my, the old/new C&G.

I could tell many stories of my few months time spent on the C&G in 75: "potential" 10 MPH max. speed, 168 miles of 60# rail, curved pile trestles one where the crew could not ride the train over it when the wind was 40MPH or higher, miles and miles of brush and trees like a continuois tunnel, cattle grazing in the middle of the track which need to be "butted" with the Baldwin's cowcatcher to get them to move off, two cabooses on a freight train (one for sleeping/eating when the train derailed which was often) etc..

Yes it was an experience: something you go through you wish someone else did!

Just one look at that rail and you know why they got A-1-A trucked units. And I bet they still rolled more then a few rails!

More than likely I did not photograph the caboose. Sorry.

Especially nice Baldwin action photo.  You really had to rack up the miles to get it.

I remember watching the 603 switching in Columbus in 1977: four axles spinning and two not turning at all.
