On our return to Omaha from DFW we drove through Concordia KS which is hoem to some wonderful late 19th and early 20th century architecture, including some RR stuff too.

The former MP depot & environs (now Kyle?).  The BNSF plain jane freight station is behind the depot in one shot.

The former UP depot is now the headquarters for the National Orphan Train Complex.  The Orphan Museum has an excellent website that addresses immigration issues of the late 1800s and early 1900s.  Here's the link:

In 1968, when I was 13, I stayed with an elderly family member for about a week in Concordia. Being from a large city, it was interesting to spend time in small town Concordia.  Every afternoon, the Santa Fe local would come up from Abiene, KS (or beyond?) with a lash up of 4 or 5 Blue and Yellow Freight F units to pick up and drop cars.  The train would be in town for 2 or three hours for switching, etc., then head back down towards Abilene.  

Your photos take me back to 1968.  It was a lot busier in that area back then.
