Appears to be just West of the mill at Standard.

You can see the Sierra Pacific mill at Chinese in the top left side of the frame. Standard is farther East (end of the RR) from Chinese. The train has just crossed CA 120 HWY heading towards Oakdale (West).
The photo was taken from a position on North Serpentine Loop Rd.

Oops wrong mill, Chinese just never looked that big! The other thing is that the area shown between
the train and the mill is now a lot more grown in, cool picture and a good representation of the days
when one unit was all that was operable.

Westbound between Chinese and Quinn Tank.  #42 is the only Baldwin left on the Sierra RR today.

This is a westbound train (notice loaded chip cars) and it is going "up" Chinese Hill, which is the ruling westbound grade on the Sierra, although Chinese Hill is not as bad as the curves/grades east of Sonora.

The mill is the SPI mill at Chinese Station. Just ahead of this train at the top of Chinese Hill, is Quinn Spur and the earlier location of the Quinn water tank. Some westbound trains would double the hill at this locatoin: leaving part of the train in Chinese ,Station and then taking the rest up to Quinn Spur and returning for the rest of the consist and then re-assembling the train at Quinn and proceeding westbound.
