Claremont, NH.  I think this is along NH Rte 12.

That's on NH Route 103 (Google shows it as 12 and 103) in West Claremont. The unit in the distance is No. 31 coming up Plains Road from Coy Paper. This was the western extremity of the former electrified trackage. To get 50-foot cars around the sharp curves into Coy they had to remove the knuckles from engine and car and insert a temporary drawbar that was held in place using the knuckle pins.

What a wonderful photo. Former electric, shortline railroading at its best with tight curves, odd street running arrangements and the ubiquitous GE 44-tonners. The neighborhood convienience store on the right completes the scene.

There are quite a few photos of the C&C from this era on the usual online sources.  Many show two 44-tonners working in close proximity on the former electric trackage.  Was there a specific operational reason for that?
