I posted shots of 2300, one of the three prototype viewliners in Houston a couple weeks ago.
A few days after I took those, the car and a coach were added to the headend of the eastbound Sunset in Houston.
This was the only time I ever saw engines on the Sunset uncoupled to add a car.

(1-2) SP MP15DC 2691 pulls the engines off and will pick up the two cars.
The train on the left was an Amtrak special in town showing off Amtrak car accommodations

(3) 2300 was one of the two sleeper prototypes (a diner was the other).

(4-6) 4631 was an ex-UP coach

(7-8) All switching and servicing completed, the pair of P30CH units pulls the train out of Houston.

Coach 4631 is ex-UP (Budd 1961)

Another first-rate set of a piece of Amtrak history.
