On 10/9/88 the Reading Company Technical and Historical Society along with the Blue Mountain and Reading ran a trip from Temple up to Tamaqua,PA. over Conrail's Shamokin Secondary. The RCT&HS-RDG 5308 (C630) and RDG 5513 (GP30) powered this excursion along with the BM&R passenger consist. This was a little over 2 years before the Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern took over this ex-RDG line from Conrail. First shot is the train backing down off the BM&R on Laurel Siding at Temple,PA. to get on the Shamokin Secondary at CP Belt. Next shot is at Port Clinton (MP 79), future site of the Reading & Northern's Headquarters and Shops. Third shot is at Hecla (MP 90).

Top shot is along Rte. 443 at Zehners (MP 94.5)  Middle is the train parked in Tamaqua.  Bottom is the 5308 opened up and on display. Cab tours were given during the layover in Tamaqua.

We caught the return trip at Atlas (MP 92) and then back down at Hecla (MP 90).

That was a fun chase Rod. Port Clinton has changed a lot! I miss our coaches in the dark green paint.

Hard to believe that these units are now well over TWICE as old as they were during this excursion!  Would love to see them pull more, if they're still capable.

Well done. My favorite is photo two with the overhead view of the train coming around the curve.
