We gave EMD its deserved applause yesterday for serving the EL so well, but the other big kids on the block need a shout out too! We'll take a look at the U33C, and U36Cs that held down many of the same assignments as the SD45s, but were not as preferred by the crews I road with. The GEs would tend to slip a bit on the Clark Summit grade on westbounds out of Scranton, but once over the hump, I thought they ran just fine. To be honest I thought the big GE units rode better, but I didn't have to ride them everyday, so I'll yield to the people who did. They were fun to photograph though, and I personally loved anything other than the growing parade of the 4 axle GP40-2s that were swamping Chessie System at the time.

Great variety, Bill.  Thanks for refreshing my memories of the late, great New York Southern Tier.  Impressive railroading back in my younger days you've captured so well.

First-class images. How strange to see the image at Wadsworth Hill and compare it with what is left and is used by the Akron Barberton Cluster today. In fact, I can't recall taking a picture there in years.

...I see 3312. Poor crew (inside joke). On another note, that 3317 train at Owego in the snow- was that the pull back move due to a derailment ? Seems I remember that was the day after our all nighter ride.
