Nice picture!  According to RR Picture Archives and Utahrails CRR SD40 #3011 was built 2//69, later it became SBD #8286, CSXT #8345, EMDX #6505, rebuilt by VMV to UP SD40-2 #4775 10/24/99, renumbered #2825 1/8/02, retired 6/6/02.  Gerry

Those Clinchfield SD40's sure did earn their keep.  I think the 3011 is a testament to that.  Thanks for the share.

It was pointed out to me that the greenery is too green for January. There was no date given, so I used the processing date. Most likely this was photographed in 1973. I changed from  January 1974 to sometime in 1973.

Neat image from a special railroad. I count myself very lucky that I got to ride it end-to-end on an excursion, one of the most unique and memorable trips I've ever taken, anywhere. Saw quite a few of such SD's. All were as grimy with coal dust and general road grime as could be, just like this one. Showing that they earned their keep and got the job done? You bet!

Very nice roster photo.  CRR certainly worked their units hard and did not worry about the grime.
Thanks for posting this photo from one of my favorite roads.
