Nostalgia & History > Cutoff date for nostalgia?

Just curious, if I want to post some favourite shots from 5-6 years ago, would that be considered nostalgia? Is there a cutoff date for posting to this board?

I don't think there is any "official" cut off date for nostalgia.   I think if the motive power, area, operations etc have changed then 5 or 6 years ago would be nostalgia.  If you could photograph the same exact things today than maybe not.  However that is just my personal opinion.

Stuff that's not "modern" depending on how you define it, would be my guess.

I can tell you what I look for but there are different strokes for different folks.  My sweet spot is the 70's but I enjoy seeing 50's thu 80's.

That's a fair assessment of what the category should be,

If a similar shot can't be taken today, even if it is a few years old, I would say it makes more sense to post it to Nostalgia & History rather than one of the other boards.

Just my opinion though. Others may vary, but nostalgia is in the eyes of the beholder

sd 60's don't evoke that for me  perhaps a grande sd50?

for me may 1, 1971 is the cutoff

Cutoff date was 14th August 2009. Unlucky...

My cutoff date is 1990 because that was when I both turned 30 and got married.  And trains were definately more fun to watch pre-1990.  In my opinion, of course!

When I first came aboard back '11 somebody said the arbitrary age of a Nostalgia shot was 13 years. That sounded odd,,,,,,,,,, Howzabout lets make it "13 years, 4 months, 27 days"??? 13 years,, eeeyeahhhh,,, buddy,,,,, Since then I have been sneaky enough to post numerous Nostalgia threads with images less than a week old, but have written a paragraph or 2 that seemed to make everyone think in nostalgic terms. (All except one cranky ol' curmudgeon who can't stand a world not up to his strict standards... :^)

I would say it totally depends on the image(s) & the details right behind,,,,,,,

My personal cutoff date is anything post 1990, which is of little interest to me, but I am more than glad to use my discerning eye to view what I want to view and leave the rest for those who enjoy it.
