Old trip with grandparents on Sunset Limited

I was just looking through some old boxes and came across this old gem.  It's not a very good picture, but that's my grandpa in front of the Sunset limited on our trip from Jacksonville, FL to Oxnard, CA in 1999.  It seems like a lifetime ago!  I miss the old paint scheme and I miss the F40s, but most of all I miss my grandpa!

An update:    I looked up some roster shots of this locomotive and 6 months later locomotive 98 was in a major wreck in Eagle Lake, TX.    Still, amazingly the locomotive was rebuilt and there are plenty of pictures of it traveling the rails to this day in the blue and silver paint scheme.

Interesting info on the Amtrak loco.  

I do see in the background, one of the former CB&Q baggage cars wrecked as well:

Either
  • Amtrak 1002 CBQ 903 Silver Bear for California Zephyr
  • Amtrak 1003 CBQ 904 Silver Buffalo for California Zephyr
  • Amtrak 1004 CBQ 905 Silver Coyote for California Zephyr
 
  • Amtrak 1005 CBQ 906 Argo for Nebraska Zephyr
  • Amtrak 1006 CBQ 907 Olympus for Nebraska Zephyr
  • Amtrak 1007 CBQ 908 Silver Treasure for Silver Streak Zephyr
These cars had a single baggage door and a double baggage door on each side.  The car in your photo is consistent with one of these CB&Q cars.  Unfortunately we do not see a car number.

I rode the Sunset LA-Orlando in 1999, and was two days from returning when the Eagle Lake wreck (collision with a semi) happened. Due to that, the consist for our return on #1 was rather reduced,
