Author: bakersfielddave

In October i drove up to Promontory to see the Golden Spike Monument and drove out some miles futher on the old 1869 grade and back  there were still some tie plates and what appeared to be original spikes laying around on the western end of the old grade

So . . . . . apparently they give rides with something? Does anyone know when they might do that? And with what ?

Nice photo documentary!  I wonder how old that original 10 miles in one day sign is?

Of course you were at Promontory Summit, not Promontory Point, which is many miles away at lake level.

I last visited there in 1980, so many thanks for the current photos.
Much looks the same, except the huge debris pile in photo 8.
Really enjoyed taking a lot of time there back then, and your photos
have me thinking about a return trip.

Is the "debris pile" future fuel or do the repro locos burn propane, coal or oil?
No rides given, the locos only do re-enactments of the driving of the Golden Spike.
It wouldn't be much of a ride, tracks to nowhere!
that sure is one desolate place, thanks for the pix!
