37 years apart and more - Bridgewater NY ex DL&W
Author: train1275

Bridgewater, NY was located on the DL&W's Richfield Springs branch along US Route 20 south of Utica, NY.

1. A view of Central New York Railroad 101 passing the depot on August 15. 1979. The CNY took over the Richfield Branch from the Erie Lackawanna in December 1973 using this ex D&H (4088) RS-3.

2. A few years later on August 29, 1982 an excursion passes by on the way back to Utica from Richfield Springs with ex CNJ cars and NYSW 2002 (C420) as power.

3. In 2019, 37 years later, the rails are long gone but the depot remains and is painted in colors similar to what it wore in the 1930's. The structure was built in 1901 and was an open D&W agency until September 15, 1952 when long time agent Ray Dawson closed the doors. The building was then sold "lock, stock and barrel" to the Unadilla Valley Railroad for $225. This was a joint agency back in the day between DL&W and UV RR. The UV went out in November 1960. Tracks here on the DL&W side were removed in 1995.

Another view of the nicely repainted depot. The UV came in from the far left.

A view of DL&W 955 and UV 200 meeting in the 50's.

The UV 200 pulls off the interchange track and heads for the Route 20 crossing with the Gatesdale Dairy Bar in the background. The Gatesdale was a stop for many a train and section crew.

Like all the photos in the series but most especially the last two.
Per Wikipedia, the Unadilla Valley Railway was abandoned in 1960.
Thanks for your posting.
