Nostalgia & History > NYC 4012Date: 11/19/19 00:09 NYC 4012 Author: refarkas NYC 4012 (EMD E7A) is in the deadline at NYC's/PC's Collinwood Yard in Cleveland, Ohio in the late 1960's. Stored along with her are at least one EMD and several ALCO switchers. Standing in the background is the unused NYC coaling tower.

It probably was retired because of major component failure such as a generator or prime mover. With decline in passenger service, the need for E-Units was also declining so sometimes those needing major repairs could simply be retired.
Thanks for the view back into time. ALLEN Date: 11/19/19 08:33 Re: NYC 4012 Author: penncentral74 Many of the 567-12 prime movers were harvested for the upcoming DeWitt Geep program. At least they got to live on.

However, there was an E7 built with component parts supplied by EMD to Southern Pacific in 1954 during a rebuild of SP's original E2, aka...."Queen Mary". EMD supplied cab, carbody, and fuel tank. What was interesting about this last example was that while externally the body was pure E7, the fuel tank and skirting were E8 type.
