Nostalgia & History > One pretty pup, EL 413Date: 11/30/19 14:44 One pretty pup, EL 413 Author: EL833 I'll admit to being a "little" biased, but switchers in full Erie Lackawanna dress were some of the sharpest shifters around during the 70s. Akron, Ohio, August 1976, Conrail but untouched.

Nice shot. Gary Date: 11/30/19 17:21 Re: One pretty pup, EL 413 Author: train1275 Anything EL is a winner ! Sure do miss it.
The guys I knew (ex DL&W) seemed to refer to these as "bob-tails" or just plain switch engines. The Lehigh Valley guys referred to them as pups. Many times you could tell where a "rail" was from by his terminaology and heaven forbid you used the wrong phrase or terminology with the wrong bunch of guys ! Keep those EL images coming ! Three axles with roller bearings and one with regular (friction) bearings. Thanks for the interesting photo post. Still recall the first time I was away from home and called them shifters and they looked at me like I was out of my mind. Haven't heard that term in many years. Ben
