Smokin' Utah Alcos ... kept you coming back

Utah RSD4's # 304 & 305 in the yard @ Martin, UT on June 12, 1975. Visits there always produced good results, but didn't get back there very much after these units were gone.

The running of 4-unit consists of RSD-4s between Martin and Hiawatha in the late 'Seventies / early 'Eighties was, for me, akin to watching a herd of dinosaurs in some remote, far-off valley in modern times.  Marvelous looking and sounding machines.  Thanks for the reminder.

Great photo of more of Alco's great oil burners.

Great photo, wish I could have seen them in person! But I did enjoy the SD40’s and now those are gone.

Looks like 305 had been repainted; 304 is pretty ratty looking in comparison and a different color number as well.

Probably same color, just faded by the high altitude sun.

The ratty unit numbers do like like a very faded yellow at closer inspection; quite the contrast to the fresh paint.

305 had been repainted into the "new" paint scheme that eliminated the red and yellow striping.
304 is probably still wearing it's factory paint job.
