.   .   .   back in winter '71, Santa Fe's eastbound Super C was approaching Summit, CA, on it's race to Chicago.

You must have been one cold photographer to nail the Santa Fe Super C on Cajon Pass back in 1971.  Wonderful image worth the effort-!

The two FP45 refugees from the paint shop that stayed in red and silver thru '72-3 were 5942 and 5944.   Those two regularly got assigned to the Super C, but shots of them are super rare.

1971 schedule

Eastbound #891    LA 930 am...... San Bdo 1100-1105 ....... Barstow 100pm

Westbound #198   Barstow 705p..... San Bdo 910-915........ LA 1100pm

the trains were due to meet each other at Needles at 400 pm

Nice shot, Joe, thanks for posting.  And it is so rare anymore to see the pole lines on Cajon Pass.

This is around the time of the Cajon Pass re-alignment. Is the train on the new line? The old line appears to be intact
with a much sharper curve.
