CNW Snow Plow----ready for action!
Author: ghemr

I caught this snow plow fresh out of the paint shop at CNW's California Ave. Coach Yard in a warmer month of 1979. Earlier that year (in January) us Chicagoans dealt with The Blizzard of '79. No doubt the CNW was planning for the following winter.........

One of the neatest repurposings of a locomotive that I ever saw.
Unfortunately, it was in the shadows when I saw it on 4/20/1980.
Double Track Wedge Plow CNW X263000 built from RSD-5 #1684
Thanks for the interesting post.

What an incredible piece of railroad equipment; have never seen or heard of it before,
and I had worked for them.  I hope more photos turn up of this classic.  Thanks for posting.

The thing still exists.  It was stored on the Boone & Scenic Valley at Boone, IA for a while, but at last report had been repainted for service on Iowa Northern as their 77.  UP reportedly didn't want to move it for a while, but eventually some arrangement was worked out:

Many thanks for the links to the other photos.
I was in Boone with the C&NW for a month in 1992 but did not see it there.
If it was and I missed it, I will be kicking myself for a long time.
The new paint job really looks sharp.

I saw it there in 1995, and valmont saw it there in 1988, but I can't guarantee it was there in 1992.
