John in White Marsh, Maryland Date: 12/03/19 03:14 Re: Aug, '94: Amtrak at Weverton, MD Author: andersonb109 The old Cap was a great train. Full diner with actual food, dome, and full lounge with take out. And look. Two locos in case one crapped out which was rare back in the days of state of good repair. Heck, even all the rooms had toilets.

Technically that is correct, but you can see the Weverton signal in the background so the title is not incorrect. I don't know, by the early/mid 90's those F40's were getting long in the tooth, and they had alot of issues as well. We tend to look back at this point in Amtrak's history as the good old days, and in many ways they were, but keep in mind, many P42's have had a longer life than the F40, and given the amount of miles both engines have put in, I'd say that they're doing ok. Is it time to get new power? Hell yes, Do I miss the F40's and the Amtrak of the 80's and 90's? You bet I do. I miss those days a lot!! Thanks for posting!
