Postcard from the Mountain (vol #3): Q 9841
Author: santafe199

We haven’t seen anything from Spain’s Mountain lately, so how ‘bout this Q motor car. I’m taking a wild guess at the approximate date, so if anyone has better info about this image please step up to the plate and swing for the fence…

1. Postcard/image of CB&Q motor car 9841 in Galesburg, IL (?) circa 1955 (??). Mined from “Spain’s Mountain” of all kinds of RR memorabilia. (Translation: From the Dick Spain collection)

Thanks for the pitons!

Looks a lot like Santa Fe's units...

Very nice looking.  A branchline beauty--those things picked up mail, creamery cans and passengers creating nice reliable customer service----days gone bye.

And the only way they even broke even was those mail and express contracts.
When those went away so did the trains.

My mom rode one of these from her hometown Steward to Rochelle, IL back in the 30’s and 40’s. They called it the “puddle jumper”— lol

Great image that would be enhanced if some level of descreen was used during scanning.
That would eliminate the dot pattern...

I'm wondering what line this was assigned to.  Most of the Q "doodlebugs" were assigned to a route and not in pool type service.

Thanks for posting, Lance.
