I recenltly found a December 1976 glossy Amtrak brochure.  It has drawings of their various services.  I have scanned the pages.  I did not scan the map, which covered the backside of the brochure.  Enjoy.

I remember this brochure, but it would be another 8yrs before I hired out (as an LSA) and by then it was all SuperLiners out here on the West Coast.  But those red uniforms were still around- YEOW!  They were almost painful to see in a mirror!  Luckily, as an LSA, I worked in white shirtsleeve, navy slacks, and only my apron was red.  Doable.  I was issued a red vest, but never once wore it in service.

I did wear it once- at a Halloween party!  Yes, really.

Very nice equipment (excepting the Amfleet car).  Too bad its all gone.

Talk about a lost art....the good ol' magazine/broshure graphic (by hand) illustrator.

 

I especially like the lounge car where people would casually talk to strangers in a pleasant setting and watch the scenery go by.  Of note is there's no 'camp sites' for any of the train crew members as it is these days. 

Instead, cafe cars are cramped booths where passengers spend all their time online and spread out all their stuff (including backpacks, etc) in an effort to ensure not more than one other passenger can use the table as well.  And, of course, they don't move until they reach their destination!
 

Back in the days when the pricing of long-distance calls (including inbound to 800 numbers) was sensitive to distance, thus the proliferation of 800 numbers as a way to minimize the bill from AT&T. 

The leg-rest coach interior is very 1960s (turqoise!) but the Amfleet interior is very 1970s... oranges, purples, etc.
