I took this shot @ E. Ely, NV on June 17, 1972 ... at least they found a shady spot! This pic was on the cover of Pacific News' August 1979 issue.

Looks like a coaling tower.  Was the concrete tower holding a water tank, or more coal?  I ask because I see what looks like a tank in the upper window of the concrete...

The wood structure was addwd when the 81 recieved a stoker.  The Stoker coal was kept in the wood section of the coaling tower.  The concrete is older.  Unfortunately this history will be more difficult to interpit because of the decision by the NN Railway  Museum to elininate the stoaker from the 81 in the rebuild.  There is a water column in the yard that has existed since the property was given to the city and one that was installed.
