SP Biz Train O' Brass

This might have been a Super Bowl Special, but I'm not sure.  There are no dates on the slides, but it was in the early/mid-80's.  These were shot at the Casa Loma grade crossing just East of Towle, CA , back when there was still a crossover (the train is WB).  I also took B&W photos of the same train in Gold Run and again in Colfax.

How many cars did SP have in there business fleet? I remember seeing one or two in the mid to late 90’s. But that was it.

Great photos!

Lots at one time. Dewindled as they got old and retired. By mid 70s, 99-100-106-110-117-127-131-140-141-150-151

Overheard on the back porch:

Rip it out...

S.R.,
Yup.  I caught the same train at Mogul, Nevada earlier that day when it left SK on Saturday, 1.19.85.  8365 and two SDP45's along with 295, 298, 292, 290, 291 then 117 - Tucson, 131 - Los Angeles, 151 - Pine Bluff, 99 - Houston, 141 - Oakland, 100 - Airslie, 140 - Stanford.  They were on their way to Palo Alto for the Super Bowl played on 1.20.85 when the San Francisco 49'ers beat the Miami Dolphins.

AH!  Thank you!  I was pretty sure it was a Super Bowl Special, but w/o facts (I pretty much never took notes) I was wary of saying so.  The train was quite a show of what the SP could put together if the situation demanded!
I'll post my B&W's when the timing is right- oh, say in about 2 weeks?

99 was the Houston. 151 was the Pine Bluff. Train was a Shippers Special for guest to attend the Super Bowl

In the third photo the man on the left looks like he is shorts? Is that the "boss"?

Espee must have been a great host.
I was Engineer on the Super Bowl Special leaving Pensacola to Chattahoochee Fl on Feb, 21, 1984. Had the 3209 and 3201 with 11 cars.
Posted this picture several years back of the Special crossing 17th Ave as we departed.
