Montreal Limited at Whitehall, N.Y.
Author: aehouse

In October 1970, a Delaware and Hudson trainman stands by the open trap as D&H train 9, the northbound Montreal Limited, makes its nightly call at Whitehall, N.Y.  The train was literally in the Autumn of its long history, being discontinued the following May with the coming of Amtrak.

Though daytime service was restarted on the route in August 1974 (and continues today as Amtrak's "Adirondack"),  overnight service on the New York-Montreal route via the D&H has never been restored.

Rode it in 1966 from Poughkeepsie to Montreal.  The train was packed.

Old D&H RR Albany, NY based passenger train and engine crews worked to and from Montreal, QC, Canada.

That seems like a long crew district for that era.  The D&H route into Montreal ran over subsidiary Napierville Junction Railway in Quebec.  Are you sure they didn’t provide their own crews?
