Thirty-two years ago on this date...
Author: Pattenburg

would find eight inches of snow on the ground in western New Jersey and CR's Lehigh Line having signal problems. Those two factors motivated me to head up to Pattenburg Tunnel on February 14, 1988 hoping to get a winter scene at the tunnel. What I got was more than I hoped for. It was a side by side photo of CR's MAIL-8, with CR 3268 leading, with CR PIOI holding on the passing siding in a nicely illuminated scene. To my knowledge this is the only side by side photo I have ever seen that was taken at the tunnel's east portal. Regarding those CR diesels... CR 3268 is a GP40 and began service as PC 3268. It would later become MEC 352. As for CR 6719, an SD50, it would be involved in a head-on collision while powering a Rio Grande train on the UP on March 28, 1991. CR 6719 would eventually become CSX 8650.

Very nice!  I never had much exposure to Conrail so I've really been enjoying all the stuff that's been posted recently.
