Here's a an AABBB set at Raton, NM that I shot on July 14, 1969.

Great shot! Old Santa Fe RR Albuquerque, Las Vegas, or Raton, NM train crews on that train above, worked Albuquerque-La Juntam CO-Albuquerque.  Raton, NM based worked Raton-La Vegas(NM)-La Junta-Raton.
 

The AT&SF sure knew how to lash up the F-Units.

They did....but I think Chicago Great Western was the F unit lashup champ. 

I just love northern New Mexico and the warbonnets.  I tried to zoom-in as much as I could.  I just cannot tell, is this the second section (low level section) of #17 or could it be #23 with a heavy summer consist?  

i was guessing 17, looks like a big  dome down there thou, can you tell?

Valmont shot three westbound passenger trains that day:

1. A short train lead by F7 43L at Las Vegas, NM that is almost certainly No. 23, the nameless remnant of the train once known as the Grand Canyon: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3348887 , https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,2706767

2. A train with Hi-Levels lead by FP45 106 at Raton, NM that is almost certainly El Capitan: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,1975929 , https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3492777

3. A train with single level cars and a Pleasure Dome lead by F7 300L also at Raton, NM that is almost certainly the Super Chief: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,2722672  and also the photo in the current thread.

The Super Chief and El Capitan ran separately for the last time during the summer season in 1969. El Capitan had long since lost its unique numbers in the timetable, so both trains ran as sections of No. 17 and 18.  As you can see in those old threads, the fact that neither train at Raton in valmont's photos is flying green flags for a second section has prompted a great deal of consternation and disapprobation.
