Depot Friday: AVI 2 fer 1 special!
Author: santafe199

Just after the first of the year I had the honor of chauffeuring the one & only “wag216” around south central Kansas. We were in search of traces of the old Arkansas Valley Interurban Ry, which ran from Wichita north to Newton and west over to Hutchinson. (…and back, of course… ;^) And we found a lot of “stuff”: ( https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4932805,4932805#msg-4932805 ). Let’s go AVI depot-hopping…

1. & 2. AVI Valley Center depot, now a residence sitting NE of the "L" intersection of W 1st & N Birch Sts in Valley Center, KS.

3. & 4. AVI Halstead depot, now a residence sitting NW of the intersection of E 2nd & Spruce Sts in Halstead, KS. Check out the 'AVI' logo on the shadowed side of the building!

Howsabout making it a “baker’s trio”…

5. AVI Burrton depot, now a garage (sorta) sitting at the W end of W South Depot St (…that’s NOT a typo!) in Burrton, KS.

Thanks for the navigation, “216”!

Surprised at the number of stations that survived on that line.
I've followed old interurban lines in Ohio and Texas and you usually see old roadbed, bridge abutments or substations but stations are rare.
Nice finds.

Thanks Gary! Art and I would have gotten a fourth over in Hutchinson, but we were running outta daylight...

A hip roof on a residence is a hard to hide former depot clue!
The full wall of windows on the Burton depot, complete with a windowed door is so cool!
