Nostalgia & History > Classy Lookin StationDate: 02/26/20 13:31 Classy Lookin Station Author: WichitaJct Looks like two GM&O PAs are about to get underway with a passenger train at some city with a very classy looking station. Any idea where it was? Never cared much for that GM&O paint scheme, but that is a nice looking train.

The Mobile & Ohio (later GM&O) station at Mobile,Al. That is probably the Gulf Coast Rebel. Here are a few shots of it --- https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4585113,4585120#msg-4585120 The station is still there. Passenger service ended in the late 50's. Date: 02/26/20 13:52 Re: Classy Lookin Station Author: ctillnc Station was renovated again after Katrina.
Did the GM&O FA's have a through-pipe for steam from the PA? Date: 02/26/20 14:01 Re: Classy Lookin Station Author: andersonb109 Station was police headquarters last time I was there.

Through pipe for sure. Even though this is summer and GM&O cars probably did not have steam-ejector a/c, the diner probably needed steam to heat the food warmers. So the FA would need to have pipes and/or a s/g Date: 02/26/20 18:20 Re: Classy Lookin Station Author: Bob3985 Thanks for the great photo and the amazing station.
Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 02/26/20 19:03 Re: Classy Lookin Station Author: joe6w The station is currently occupied by several tenant businesses. Outside, using a portion of the old platform/trainshed area, is the city bus terminal. I don't have any pictures of that but you can see the terminal area on Google Streetview. First picture below from last summer during a rain shower is a closer shot of the back of the terminal. The second photo is a shot of the "skylight" in the rotunda of the terminal. The skylight is actually an internal dome below the tiled dome of the terminal. The light entering the skylight comes from vertical windows below the tiled dome.
