SP Passenger GP9 3189 At Oakland Army Base, 1993
Author: FiveChime

Howard Wise and the late Errol O. purchased 3189 from a scrap dealer in Richmond, California, then
with a major effort, restored the classic locomotive. Here it is shown getting a little exercise on track
leased by the Pacific Locomotive Association from the Army.

3189 was originally 5623 and has been nicely restored to 5623 in it's original black widow paint scheme
and operates now on the Niles Canyon Railway.

All the other equipment in this scene is now secure on the Niles Canyon Railway as well.
The Baldwin Yard pictured here has been completely removed and is now a huge vacant open area.

Regards, Jim Evans

I enjoy seeing action films with the SP diesels with operating gyra- lites and of course the mellow sounding SP horn . Was that a P-3 horn ? Thanks for posting. --Kelly

Donated a blasty Nathan Airchime K-3L three-chimer to Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railway for their 1942 GE
Switcher 19 whose weak little Hawaii beepers  were dangerously inadequate for NM/CO highway crossings,
Sounds nothing like these smoothies.
