Nostalgia & History > Thirty Thursday, both sides of a transfer (B&O)Date: 04/09/20 10:21 Thirty Thursday, both sides of a transfer (B&O) Author: EL833 On an October 1986 trip to Chicago land I spent some time at Hayford Junction, a very busy spot where the BRC crossed the GTW. During that year the Chessie was assigning pairs of GP30's to many of the Chicago area transfer runs. On October 19th what was probably a Barr to Clearing and return transfer had this pair of B&O GP30's. I caught the inbound at Hayford as it crossed the GTW, and then a little while later as it shoved into Clearing yard after running around it's train. In photo two that's the operator's shanty and radio antenna pole behind the 6941.

I've not seen your post on this before as I was off TO for a long while. Thanks for the link. I couldn't remember what the exact moves were on that day. I always enjoyed the BRC moves to get from Clearing to Barr with the Alco's as well. I really like the blue B&O GP30. Gary Date: 04/10/20 03:53 Re: Thirty Thursday, both sides of a transfer (B&O) Author: Roadjob Well you got something I never got on film! Two GP30s in B&O and Chessie paint, together. Now I'm jealous, because I never even caught a pairing like that in Cumberland.....don't ever talk to me again[until the next time we get together, whenever the government paroles us!}

So is picture 2 of the train doubling up and picture 1 of it departing (shoving towards the B&O connection at Western Ave)? Date: 04/10/20 10:50 Re: Thirty Thursday, both sides of a transfer (B&O) Author: ghemr Englewood Wrote:

Yes, that is correct. I might add that between all involved (East Yardmaster, Hayford, 75th, BRC disp. it appeared to be well coordinated. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/10/20 10:51 by ghemr. |
