Nostalgia & History > B&O Vincennes In getting orders and other pics 1971Date: 05/22/20 09:04 B&O Vincennes In getting orders and other pics 1971 Author: KCRW287 This post has 6 pictures of B&O trains at Vincennes Indiana, no dates were recorded or a photographer. Processed date is June 1971, Kodak Kodachromes, the slides are dark, I tried to lighten them up for this post.
1st is 3749 on train FF 88, is FF for fast freight? Crew looks like it has just picked up orders, looks like the orders are on the bottom of the window, or another left arm in the window. 2nd unit shows 2 people, maybe a deadhead crew? 2nd shot shows the 3rd unit with another person in the window. 3rd shot has the caboose of FF88 and looks like the conductor got the orders for the rear end. The train in the background is Local #70 Date: 05/22/20 09:07 Re: B&O Vincennes In getting orders and other pics 1971 Author: KCRW287 Here are 3 more at Vincennes.
4th, 6542 on the local. flying white flags 5th, caboose on the 70 local, crew member on rear of caboose. 6th, 9620 shows up Date: 05/22/20 09:27 Re: B&O Vincennes In getting orders and other pics 1971 Author: ClubCar I like them all. Thanks for sharing your B&O photos.
John in White Marsh, Maryland Date: 05/22/20 19:29 Re: B&O Vincennes In getting orders and other pics 1971 Author: cr7998 Nice shots of B&O just before the Chessie era, thanks for posting. I never saw or heard B&O refer to its numbered trains with the FF letters. In the freight schedule book, this train was just shown as 88. Perhaps the "fast freight" term was just an informal reference by a railroad employee or the photographer. Per the 1966 B&O freight schedule book, train 88 was indeed a priority train on the B&O, originating at East St Louis and terminating at Cumberland, Maryland. It handled interchange freight received from the TRRA, including perishables, and made set offs and pick ups at CIncinnati. In the 1972 freight schedule book, train 88 still originated at East St Louis, but terminated at Willard, Ohio instead of Cumberland. It used the Toledo Division north from Cincinnati, making the turn at Deshler to go east on the Akron-Chicago Division to Willard.
