F unit Friday...SP Black Widow version
Author: masterphots

SP 6470E approaches N. Main St,  Los Angeles on 6/25/62.  Ken Douglas original, my collection.  A couple of months earlier Dodger Stadium opened at the top of the hill,  out of the photo to the left.  For you baseball fans,  they lost their first game there to the Reds 6-3.  Reds center fielder Wally Post hit the first home in the new stadium.  I still have my scorecard from the game.

'Looks like a load of beets headed to Beaumont and beyond.

Definitely a "triple."

With 8 units up front, one might assume this train to be headed for Tehachapi.

Looks like empty beet gons headed back to the Imperial Valley. On the East Bank line nearing North Main St.
Lots of power for the loads tomorrow.

I suspect that beet train is also moving power out of the diesel shops to City of Industry or Colton.

Maybe someone could help orient me on this one.......to me, it appeared the train was a westbound, compass north, but I must be all turned around if this train is headed to Colton.
Power move sounds about right for 8 units on a train of empties.

Taken from the North Main St. crossing looking north. Notice the arch of the North Spring St. bridge with North Broadway bridge partially hidden
behind it as well as the power lines on the right.

Thanks Charlie, that maze of LA railroading has always been confusing to me....and, at  my age, it appears I'll never get it right.
