From #15 the southbound Lone Star passed this derailment at Guthrie,Ok.

 A nice looking consist with VERY few steam leaks for December.  Odd positioning of the diner, lounge, sleepers and baggage car on the rear.  Almost looks like the engines were cut-off and run around to the other end. Perhaps due to the derailment?

I believe the last few cars or so were the Dallas section.
At Ft.Worth they would be taken off and ready to go.
There was another baggage car at the front end.

Baggage car on the rear was added at KCY off of the National Limited. Consist for 15/16 was baggage, diner,3 hi-level coaches, lounge, sleeper and baggage (KCY to Dallas.)

Hmmmm,  that must have been during 1976–1977 when the Lone Star combined with the Southwest Chief between Chicago and Kansas City.  During that period of winter freezes in Chicago, the Hi-level to Dallas was replaced with a low level coach.  This makes the photo even more appealing!
