Extra Ugly F-Unit Friday
Author: icancmp193

In June of 1976 I ventured home to NJ for the first time in a couple years, and first time since the formation of Conrail. Headed up to the old haunt of Port Jervis, NY and encountered former P-C F7 #1829, front-coupled at that.
When you have come 3,000 miles, you take what you can get!

Not ugly to me.  Rather a PC classic!

No F-Unit is ugly, not even MKT #401B.

No way is that unit ugly. When I saw the word "ugly" in the title, I was expecting a photo of a unit with a snow plow pilot or one of the ones with a squared off pilot.

If I recall, this modified loco is a Rock Island F-2 that lost the upper headlight in repairs after a derailment or incident.

That's correct, the 49 was repaired that way after a wreck.  That's my photo (top) of the 49 in Topeka, KS, on an eastbound Rock Island freight curving onto the big bridge over the Kansas River in 1966, copied from a previous post: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4946397,4946397#msg-4946397
