Were these relegated to "B" unit status as time went by? (Since the windows seem covered over).

Yes

They were relegated to trail only because the window was made so you had to be a contornist to see a hand signal out of it. Every time you put your head out out, you had to remember to duck so you wouldn't hit the top of your head. on the window. There were also crashworthy questions about the front end.
