Nostalgia & History > Question for GE 45 Ton owner from OERMDate: 05/29/20 17:01 Question for GE 45 Ton owner from OERM Author: TomPlatten We are progressing on cosmetic and mechanical work on our former Army/Air Force GE 45 Ton switcher. At some point in time the interior was coated with a thick substance that looks like tar ot super thick paint. It is a SOB to remove in order to refurbish the cab's interior, Air chisels and Needle Scalers have varied results. Does anyhone know what that coating is?

black, brushed or sprayed, we used it in hydraulic reservoir interiors to protect against rust under the tank lid and above the oil level. It had a mil spec number and I'm sure it was around during WWII. Once it hardened it was on forever. We used an abrasive disk to remove it (if we had to). Now why it's inside the cab, good question! And it's about time 41 got some love! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/30/20 08:08 by PHall. |
