Nostalgia & History > L&N Baxter Avenue Station - 1987Date: 06/27/20 00:13 L&N Baxter Avenue Station - 1987 Author: krm152 The station was located on the L&N’s elevated LCL Mainline off of Baxter Ave. in Louisville, KY. This station was constructed around 1936 in conjunction with L&N's mainline elevation project that involved elevating their tracks from south of MN Tower, near the Bourbon Stock Yards, to just north of Kentucky St. The station included a small mail handling facility. The Baxter Avenue Station was a convenience for some east end Louisville rail travelers.
The posted photos of L&N Baxter Avenue Station were taken in June 1987. Photo 1 - View facing northeast of the west facing side Photo 2 - View facing northwest of the east facing side The station building, a later target of severe vandalism, has since been razed. The platforms and canopies remain. ALLEN Date: 06/27/20 04:06 Re: L&N Baxter Avenue Station - 1987 Author: gcm Nice find and images on this rarely seen station.
I'm amazed that the platforms are still there. Gary Date: 06/27/20 04:34 Re: L&N Baxter Avenue Station - 1987 Author: refarkas Interesting structure. Historic postings like this make Trainorders even better.
