Going through a collection of slides I bought from Rik Anderson, came across this one from May '82 of an Amtrak special at Beaumont CA.  Photo by Steve Gartner.

Nice shot from Steve Gartner. I traded tons of slides with him and he drove to New Jersey back in the 1970's as he had relatives here. 

I gave him a whirlwind tour of North Jersey (Croxton, E'port, Oak Island, Kearny, etc.)

He sent me a mess of slides he took on his drive back to California. Helluva nice guy.

Thanks guys for the kind words.I'm still out shooting, pixels not slides.Age has slowed me down but I still get out there.

Pacific Railroad Society Excursion # 332, May 15. Los Angeles - Yuma AZ.
Request was for two 700's, but manageament said could not depend upon two to make the trip.

Thanks for the additional info guys and nice to hear from the original photographer!  Sounds like a great excursion to have been on; would love to cover that territory in daylight.

Love the comment about the concern of the big GEs not making it!
