Nice image, Joe, of some of my favorite Missouri Pacific power. They are passing through the Grand Avenue interlocking, just west of the Grand Ave. overpass, passing above them in the image. The interlocking is still compressed-air-operated at this time, as seen by the switch machines and piping. It's controlled by the Grand Ave. tower, just out of the frame and behind you to the right.

Running light like this, and not on one of the coal trains for big Labadie power plant of local utility Union Electric Co. (today Ameren), located on MP west of St. Louis, my guess is that they were just going into or coming out of the MoPac's Compton Ave. / Chouteau Ave. locomotive shop. It's ahead on the right out of view, just beyond the Compton Ave. roadway overpass seen in the distance. At the time of this image, the GE U30C units were maintained at that location, not North Little Rock, to keep them close to the coal trains that cycled through St. Louis between mines in southwestern Illinois and the Labadie power plant.

Thanks for posting a fine image.

Nice photo and good looking units in that paint.
