Nostalgia & History > San Francisco Chief at Stockton 1960Date: 07/07/20 20:22 San Francisco Chief at Stockton 1960 Author: photobob I took this with my new Ikoflex twin lens reflex camera in Stockton. My Dad waits for me in his 1955 Chevy. Saturday or Sunday train chasing trips were a regular routine for us. Then we would race home and I would hit my darkroom, AKA. the bathroom where I would develop the days catch. Thanks Dad for the time we spent together chasing trains.

My favorite is when he put the baby fish swimming in the ice water at the Ahwahnee hotel restaurant in Yosemite. The leaf doesn't fall far from the tree. Glad he took you out railfanning to make these pics happen.

Date: 07/08/20 07:37 Re: San Francisco Chief at Stockton 1960 Author: Notch7 I love this shot because it shows a engineer in stripes climbing up in his classy warhorse. This reminds me why I went firing long ago and why I still make the climb.

The train Nerd in me like the ATS shoe mounted on the back side of the leading truck on the PA. When I worked for Amtrak the ATS detector was directly under the engineer's window on those SDPF40s at least. It made the "ATS Test" simpler when you could catch the eye of the engineer.

But from a crew standpoint (the other side of the coin) I've always wondered how much of a pain it would be to have to climb that ladder every single time. Definitely no fun for an overweight, hefty dude...

The train was powered by three gorgeous PAs from Barstow. Date: 07/08/20 13:22 Re: San Francisco Chief at Stockton 1960 Author: texchief1 That is one nice shot!
Randy Lundgren Date: 07/08/20 15:06 Re: San Francisco Chief at Stockton 1960 Author: JimBaker Seeing the Ladder Climb there on the PA reminded me of the story I heard about a Lady getting on a new LARy PCC car in Los Angeles back in the day.
