EPort
Author: skyview

Was scanning some older images and came across this shot at EPort, on the CNJ.  This is a shot I only did this time or at most twice, but after 45 years I truely regret NOT taking more images and placing the locomotives in their enviornment.  The time has made this ordinary shot in 1974 rather unordinary today.  I dont know the fate of this building, but would guess its torn down.

This shot was made on Aug 23, 1975, literally a day or two before I left NJ for college, and what turned out to be perminantly.  This was a stop on "the rounds", typically hitting Croxton Yard, CNJ at EPort, PC Kearny, and perhaps another stop or two, with the intent to shoot roster shots.

CNJ 1529, CNJ 8405, and an Alco CNJ 1705 are seen in this shot..

Tim, I went by there a couple of years ago. The area is totally unrecognizable now (except for the NJ Turnpike) compared to when we were there in the 70's.

Great photo, the red units and the brick of the building lend a sense of optimism to the image - despite being so close to the end for CNJ.

For those who are not local Eport is short for Elizabethport, NJ

Some of that property is now the NS E-rail facility.

The adjacent Elizabethport train station is still in place. The crossing was once the location where the Jim Thorpe - Raritan - Jersey City main line crossed the Perth Amboy to Newark Broad CNJ station.

Very abandoned these days. I hiked up a few years ago. Platforms are still there.
