Nostalgia & History > New control stands in old Fs question

Dear Tos , i have seen pics of F and E units with new control stands but never "desk top" style. Now i know changing out the old for news must be a complicated job, but how complicated? any pic would be great.

Why would you want to install desktop controls? They're pretty much despised by anybody who has to use them.

I seem to recall that Republic Locomotive redid a FL9 with something like a desktop. I'd like to try one out.

i think some canadian roads F units had desktop controls installed during rebuilds, i know ive seen them in F40's.

DITTO!!!!  I always felt like a fork lift operator. I once had a UP Officer's Special E-unit was converted to a GP-35 engine with a standard control stand and 26L brake valve

Actually the UP Officers' Special E-units were converted to one 645 engine, making them essentially GP-38s rather than GP-35s which had the older 567 engines. But I always wondered if they were rebuilt with regular control stands or desks.
