Nostalgia & History > ALCO RS-1: Some Clutter in Front - Took It Anyway - 1984Date: 08/10/20 11:29 ALCO RS-1: Some Clutter in Front - Took It Anyway - 1984 Author: krm152 Algers Winslow & Western (AW&W) #4 ALCO RS-1 was Built 1/1947 as Duluth South Shore & Atlantic (DSS&A) #103.
AW&W #4 was at the Indiana Railway Museum in French Lick Indiana several years after its retirement when I visited there on 8/26/1984. The unit was perfectly spotted for a photo. Unfortunately, litter had been left on the ground immediately in front of it. I took a photo of #4 anyway. The unit was in good condition with an attractive paint scheme and had an interesting history. What would you have done? Take it or pass on it?
