More T&P steam by 11 yr old WAG Jr
Author: santafe199

A while back ( https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,5088090,5088090#msg-5088090 ) I posted a couple of really cool B/W images taken by a very young Art Gibson. But I held one image back for a special occasion. Tonight, the NFL season is opening up with Super Bowl #54 champs, the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Houston Texans at Arrowhead. Seems like a good time to post a gritty Texas & Pacific steam engine image shot by a youngster from Kansas. Works for me…

1. T&P 4-8-2 #904 photographed in Dallas, TX on February 22, 1948.
Large-format B/W negative by 11 year-old William A. -Art- Gibson (WAG) Jr.

Thanks for letting lil’ Arthur shoot!

(who right about now is probably watching the Chiefs fixin’ to whoop up on the Texans … ;^)

A fine image of a fine, stylish locomotive showing all of the details of T&P's proud way of doing things. And a sure sign at an early age of a solid photographic talent that we of the rail persuasion (be it here on TO, or elsewhere) would so often have the opportunity to enjoy.

Thanks, everyone. And GO CHIEFS!

THAT is a great looking 4-8-2!   Southwestern roads had a charm to them.

The Dallas courthouse "Old Red" seen here is still in good condition.

An excellent image made even better when his age is taken into account.

Thanks for posting and I hope you don't mind a story about those engines (class M-1)  The T&P had 5 of them but it also had 5 of class M-2  4-8-2's which did not have Elesco feed water heaters, they had coffin feedwater heaters inside the smoke box.   It was apparent the railroad did not feel those engines represented the "company look" and therefore never appeared in adds for T&P. It was the M-1's with that ever noticeable elesco that was used along with several classes of freight engines and Pacific's that had them.

Before Hugh Hollis, chief mechanical officer of the T&P, passed away I asked him why the M-2's had the coffin heaters.  His response:  "I don't know why".

PS:  note the all box pok drivers on the 904.  She could run like the wind.

A "good looker" she is, but with that Elesco feedwater heater on her head, it looks like a "headache" happening.
