Nostalgia & History > Big Blue Monday, some ironyDate: 09/14/20 12:40 Big Blue Monday, some irony Author: thebluecomet As the skies over the Mid-Atlantic area turn a milky white today from the smoke coming from the wildfires out west, I remembered a similar situation back in 1988 with the fires out in Yellowstone National Park. We were out wandering around the Allentown, PA area shooting scores of trains including this eastbound ZBB train en route to the Bethlehem Steel plant, meeting westbound ALSR departing the yard for Hagerstown, MD. While the skies were the same milky white to a pale yellow at times just like now, the ore trains would soon vanish along with the steel plant, the SD40's would eventually get demoted, the NS unit foretold of things to come and the date.....9/11/88.
